The Great Escape seems so long ago now, but don’t worry, Mutations Music Festival 2023 is just around the corner. In case you haven’t been, Mutations has been running for a couple of years now. Is just like TGE except it’s full of bands you have actually heard of and the weather is colder. Like TGE it takes place over a weekend and is split across a number of town centre venues. It runs from the 1st to 5th of November.
The lineup this year looks interesting.
Thursday is headlined by the folky girl band The Staves. Support comes from amongst others Bar Italia, Paris Paloma, Prima Queen, and The Golden Dregs.
Friday has the sampledelic sound of Public Service Broadcasting along with Antony Szmierek, Panic Shack, Porridge Radio, and local Beta Band member Steve Mason.
Saturday should be a riotous affair with Fat White Family and Ditz, Dream Wife, Grove, Just Mustard, and Life.
Finally Sunday should be quirky with Django Django and Chappaqua Wrestling, ex Super Furry Animal Gruff Rrhys, and The Lounge Society.
Mutations has been around for a few years now. The first was a one-dayer in a conference centre on an industrial estate in Portslade. It had four stages, food and merch and was really good, even if they did run out of beer mid-evening. That featured a bunch of bands like White Denim and Snapped Ankles.
