Considering how many art galleries there are in Brighton, there are surprisingly few art supply shops. Apart from The Works and W.H. Smiths, these are the only ones I can think of.
Clarkes of Sussex is on Bond Street in Brighton and sells most of the things you can think of. They also have a loyalty card which is probably worth investigating if you plan on doing a lot of things. They also used to do discounts for anyone doing an art evening class. I don’t know if that is still the case.
Lawrences on Portland Road in Hove is probably the oldest supplier in town. The business can be traced back to the 1800s however they have only been in Hove since 1998. It is quite a big shop divided into three with arts & crafts, printing and hardware rooms. They sell everything from spray cans to easels.
Cass Arts is a nationwide chain of art suppliers. I don’t think the Brighton branch is the biggest out there but it sells most things and is located in the heart of the old Lanes.
At some point, I will expand this page with things like printers, picture framers and any other related services that fit the category.
