The 2024 edition of the Brighton Photo Fringe (BPF) kicks off on Friday the 4th of October with a launch party at the Phoenix Arts Space. The BPF is a biennial photography festival that takes place in Brighton, England. It was founded in 2003 and runs alongside the Brighton Photo Biennial, offering a more experimental and grassroots platform for emerging and established photographers. The festival promotes contemporary photography, providing opportunities for artists to exhibit their work, engage with the local community, and participate in a range of events, workshops, and talks.
Unlike larger, more curated festivals, it emphasizes participation and collaboration. It is an open-access festival, meaning that anyone can submit work for inclusion, and artists often self-organize their exhibitions in a variety of spaces, from traditional galleries to unconventional venues such as cafes, shops, or outdoor locations.
Among the events this year are an exhibition by Arpita Shah at the ONCA Gallery and an exhibition by eight collectives at the Phoenix Arts Space. This year the collectives are
- Brighton Queer Photographers Collective
- Emic Collective
- Flowers of Lilith
- HOLD
- Iris Collective
- London Alternative Photography Collective
- MAP6
- Rethinking Eastern Europe
