Technically today is international women’s day but there is so much going on in Brighton that most of the interesting things seem to be happening this weekend. There are talks and discussions about all aspects of feminism and womens role in society. Now more than ever.
On Thursday the 9th you could go to the Kemptown bookshop for a panel where three women writers will talk about how they tell stories of heroines, past and present. The panel will be made up of successful local authors Kate Harrison (aka Eva Carter/ Kate Helm) Frances Quinn and Sue Teddern.
Then on Saturday you have the Brighton International Women’s Day Celebration at the Brighton Dome and Brighton Museum. This runs from 10 to 4 and promices to be a day of uplifting and inclusive talks and workshops, thought provoking discussions, exciting children’s activities, drop-in arts and crafts, music, dancing, causes and campaigns.
if you are the other side of town then Platf9rm Presents Kickass Women, Equity Era at the hot desking business hub in Hove. This year they are talking about treating everyone fairly, rather than equally. Expect the usual sorts of panels and discussions. A hilight should be the Gen Z panel where the leaders of the future discuss what they want.
Then you can round the evening off with a trip to Traumfrau at the Forge. It looks like some sort of club night with films from 7-9 and then three rooms of banging tunes til 12. Expect DJs, live performances, art and play.
